Observe preventive measures tocontain cholera, says Ntheu DHO
Ntcheu District Health Office spokesperson Stella Kawalala has urged residents to observe cholera prevention measures to contain the spread of the disease.
The caution comes after the district has registered two cholera cases, from Kalumbu Village in Traditional Authority Njolomole in the district.

“They tested positive from the initial three suspected cases the office sent for testing in Lilongwe a few days ago. The other one came out negative,” said Kawalala.
She said the two patients have since been admitted to Ntcheu District Hospital where they are under close medical observation.
“However, people should wash hands with soap before and after eating food, use latrines properly and drink water treated with chlorine,” said Kawalala.
Jennifer Chinkwita, a resident, said she will follow the instructions to help fight the outbreak.
She said: “From what health authorities shared with us, cholera is a deadly disease, yet, easy to prevent. They said what we need is to practise personal hygiene.
“People should avoid open defaecation and use toilets properly. We should also use safe water or treat it with chlorine.”
Ministry of Health and Sanitation Principal Secretary Dan Namarika also called for efforts in promoting hygiene practices among communities to contain the further spread of cholera outbreak.
He said this on Tuesday in Kasungu during a meeting with health authorities in the district aimed at appreciating the response taken to prevent the spread of the outbreak
